Moulay Idriss Zerhoun is named after Sultan Idriss who arrived here in 789.
He introduced the islam and founded a new dynasty here.
The town is considered to be the holiest place in Morocco since here the burial of Moulay Idriss el Akhbar is.
He was the great grandson of prophet Muhammed.
It is therefore regarded the perfect choice for Muslim pilgrimage in the Arabic West.
After a very short nightrest
(see the former blog 🖱️
I showered, hit my head badly 💥,
had breakfast (with 1 cold coffee and no more coffee, sorry) at the topfloor (were it was very hot)
and went outside to have a look in the town.
However, since it was ramadan there was no coffee at all to have ...
I bought some food for lunch but there was not much to have if it has to contain less then 75% sugar ...
And I keep on wondering why the markets are always completely full with vegetables
were the restaurants never serve them ?!
Do people only eat vegetables at home ???
Some were having problems with the temperature.
Or maybe with working ?
However they were the only ones I saw in a situation like this.
I had a nice diner and enjoyed that at a table in front of the restaurant.
Asking for a knife brings stress since they haven't one but after 5 minutes a knife arrived 👌.
This spot was also a nice viewpoint into the medina.
In Morocco it is always a one-stop-shopping principle.
But unlike as in western europe here they serve you the things they do have themselfs
and run to any neighbour to get the things they don't have.
In this case the restaurantowner bought the cold drinks I ordered at his neighbour across the street.
Then I had made him very clear the drinks should really be really cold.
And that neighbour has a cooler, that's why !
If you look carefully at the animation you can see him open it.
When I visited this restaurant a second time the young owner thought it was time to raise the prices.
He wanted 20% more money for the same food plus drinks and I asked him about that.
He ofcourse had no real answer so that was my last visit to him.
In Morocco there is a big cooler for every ten people or so.
But most of them don't cool since they can't afford the electricity.
Sometimes they even have changed the cabling inside.
The lights inside then function, but not the coolingsystem ...
This color is typical for towns that were founded by the Berbers, as Moulay Idriss is.
"Morocco" was also present in the small alley behind my hotel ...
As usual the coffee was of high quality.
In this mosque is the tomb of Sultan Moulay Idriss I.
Therefor, not being a moslim, I was not allowed to get closer to the mosque then this.
There was a barrier and someone was guarding the situation.
But my
Panasonic FZ1000 camera 🖱️
was doing it's job once more !
I wasn't patience enough to read all this but something is probably founded here in 1110 or in 1696
or in that period.
Maybe it was this mosque annex mausoleum ?
I stayed two nights in Moulay Idriss and (somehow) even liked it a little bit.
Although names are causing me more and more problems here since they are in latin and arabic
and completely fill up my little gps screen ...
